Futures Community College, Southend

Commissioner: Essex County Council

Adam Bridgeland
'You Will Have Dignity If You Come Here'

Futures Community College, Southend, opened in September 2007 as a Trust School working in partnership with Prospects College, a leading provider of vocational training in South Essex and the Thames Gateway. One of sixteen 'pathfinder' Trust Schools being developed throughout England, Futures Community College has made rapid progress in raising standards and ensuring students achieve their full potential.

Commissions East appointed artist Adam Bridgland to create a permanent commission for the new Upper College and managed the delivery of the work and supporting activities.

'You Will Have Dignity If You Come Here' is Adam's first major public art commission. Working with staff and students in the research and development of the commission, the title of the work is inspired from a line of a poem written by a student during one of Adam's workshops at the college.
